The devotion to St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus began in the mid-1920s, when university students and professors petitioned to build a chapel in her honor. The chapel, seating 120 people, was completed in 1927. Due to a shortage of priests, the parish was entrusted to the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) for 33 years following the founding of the Diocese of San Pablo. In 1971, a new contemporary-style church was built with a 1,500 seating capacity during Fr. Julio Barbieto's tenure. Additional facilities, including meeting rooms, mortuary chapels, and a columbarium, were added. The parish rectory, offices, and dormitories were constructed during Fr. Restituto Lumanlan's time as parish priest.
In 2000, the parish administration was transferred to the Laguna diocesan clergy, with Fr. Bernardino Cortez as parish priest. A new concrete belfry was built during Fr. Jose Thor Villacarlos' term. On October 1, 2016, the parish was elevated to the Diocesan Shrine of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus by Bishop Buenaventura Famadico.
