Parishioners from the Cathedral Parish of Saint Paul the First Hermit, led by Rev. Msgr. Jerry Bitoon, rector, escorted the relic and the framed replica from the City of San Pablo to the towns of Pakil and Kalayaan, respectively. Upon reaching the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Turumba, Rev. Fr. Jerry Oblepias, parish priest and shrine rector, enthroned the image near the sanctuary. The parishioners of Pakil, together with the delegates of the Cathedral, danced the Turumba and sung their custom praises to Our Lady. Afterwards, the faithful went to St. John the Baptist Parish in Brgy. Longos, Kalayaan to participate in the solemn procession and enthronement of the relic back to its home church. The Mass for the evangelization of peoples was presided by Rev. Msgr. Jerry Bitoon with Rev. Fr. Christian Edward Abao, parish priest of the said parish, as homilist. In his homily, Fr. Christian emphasized on the theme of the 500 YOC—Gifted to Give: “After acquiring the relic of St. Pedro Bautista through the generosity of the Basilica Minore of St. Pedro Bautista in Makati, we felt the urge to share what was given to us as a gift. The Dalaw-Alaala became an avenue of sharing the gifts, and in sharing, we are reminded that we are just mere recipients of God’s providence.” Before the final blessing, Bro. Rafael Malaborbor gave a thanksgiving speech and the botafomeiro was swung along the aisle of the church as an act of thanksgiving for the just concluded Dalaw-Alaala.

Truly, the Dalaw-Alaala served the purpose in keeping the fire of our faith and tradition blazing. May the maternal love of Our Lady of Turumba and the missionary zeal of San Pedro Bautista be with us always as we celebrate this wonderful year of thanksgiving for the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.
